Save $ On Paper Towels

INSTEAD OF SPENDING LOTS OF $ EACH YEAR ON PAPER TOWELS WHY NOT TRY THESE MICRO FIBER CLOTHS?
Are you tired of wasting money on paper towels? Here is a very inexpensive alternative and it’s even environment friendly. They are called Method MicroFiber Cloths. They will last for years, because they are reusable. All you have to do is wash them in warm water and keep reusing the same cloth. This will save you lots of money on paper towels. I know that Target carries Method products as well. Below the link I’ve posted a comment from a lady who currently uses this products (brought to you by All You Magazine)…

LAUNDRY TIPS
1) When washing whites, grease stained clothes, or baby clothes with stains follow this tip…
-Take the powdered dishwasher detergent, use 1/2 cup for a regular load or 1 cup for grease stained clothes, add 1/4 cap full of laundry detergent. Let the washer start to go for a few minutes, then open the lid and let it sit for a few hours (or overnight). Then put the lid back down and let the washer finish washing the load. You will have brighter whites, less grease stains, and cleaner baby clothes. Also a little baking soda in your load of whites does better than bleach, and leaves them smelling fresh. Bleach tends to leave bleach stains on clothes and smell up the whole laundry room.
2) DO YOU USE TIDE LAUNDRY DETERGENT???
*If you answered yes to this question you are throwing your money away and paying full $$ for a name. ALL Stainlifter laundry detergent is exactly the same as Tide. You can always get ALL laundry detergent for $2.00 or less so why pay full price for Tide? *(FYI You can wash clothes in cold water with any laundry detergent. I only use warm for grease stained clothes and towels.)*
3) ARE YOU USING MORE SOAP THAN NEEDED?
*If you have a dishwasher and you use the tabs break them in half, if you have the gel pacs, cut them in half. You only need half to get the job done. If you use a whole one this actually leaves soap film on your dishes.
*Laundry detergent, especially 2X or 3X works the same way. If you only use 1/2 of a cap, that will get the job done. Using a full cap will over power your clothes with laundry soap.
4) HOW DO YOU DRY YOUR CLOTHES?
*The cheapest way to save $$ when drying clothes is to hang them outside to dry (when weather permits this.) If you have to dry your clothes in the dryer make sure to change the dryer lint after EVERY load. Also make sure to check the dryer vent to make sure there is no lint blockage. Try to dry your clothes on medium instead of high, and only dry them as long as needed. If you are doing a load of heavy clothes, i.e. work clothes, coveralls, or jeans, only dry a few at a time. This will use less energy and dry them faster.
5) HOW TO CLEAN YOUR WASHER
*Have you ever cleaned your washer? If you run an empty load with a little bleach it will clean your washer and actually make it last longer. I’d reccomend doing this every few months. If you run a lot of grease stained clothes through the washer I’d do it every month. It really helps take out the leftover grease residue.
SIMPLIFYING THE LAUNDRY
  • Make laundry fun for kids and less work for you.
  • Give children a hamper with sections so they can separate light and dark colors before clothes make their way to the laundry room.
  • Put each child’s dirty socks in a zippered mesh bag and wash them in the bag. Each bundle gets delivered to the appropriate child’s room, they can match them up themselves, and you don’t lose "mates." Reduce even more time by washing white and colored socks in the same load, getting out worn-in dirt by using detergent and a color-safe bleach alternative.

CLOTHING HABITS FOR LIFE
  • Don’t assume low prices equal poor clothing quality. Buy name brand clothing off-season to save big – a better quality garment will survive years of wear and proper wash. This is especially true with children’s clothes.
  • Believe in hand-me-downs and frequent garage sales. What doesn’t fit a neighbor’s child might fit yours.
  • Teach children to care for their belongings at an early age: they should hang up their coats, fold clothing and put mittens and socks away as soon as they’re taken off. Label everything with a last name. In a big family, money spent replacing items that are lost or ruined add up quickly!

*THESE TIPS ARE BROUGHT TO YOU BY SPRAY ‘N WASH*
MAKE YOUR CLOTHES LAST LONGER
Flip out. Turning your clothes inside out and washing them in cold water is the best way to keep color from fading. This maneuver is especially important with jeans, which are often dyed only on the surface.
Loosen up. Don’t crowd your clothes when hanging them in your closet. Otherwise, they’re more prone to wrinkle, which means you’ll have to iron them—and that increases the risk of damage. Wire hangers also can harm the shoulders of your shirts, so it pays to invest in better quality plastic, wood or padded hangers.

Soften with caution. Fabric softeners can leave spots on your clothes. Dilute liquid softener before adding it to your wash, but don’t use more than you need.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe

*This is the best and most inexpensive recipe for home-made laundry detergent that I’ve seen. It is Charlene Hertzberg’s recipe. Thanks for sharing this great recipe with everyone! If you have any specific questions email Charlene @ mrshertzberg@msn.com*

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap Recipe
4 Cups hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax

- Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with 4 cups of hot tap water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
- To make it easy to use, pour it in to an old laundry detergent container.
-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.
-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 5 gallons.
-Top Load Machine- 1/4 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)
-Front Load Machines- 1/8 Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

The cost for supplies is initially:
box of borax about $2.50
Box of Washing soda about $3
Bar of Fels Naptha $1.00

*If you live close to a Broulim’s or Ridley's I’d reccomend just getting all of the ingredients there. Also they have the bar of Fels Naptha for only $1.00.*
——————-
There’s enough borax to make about 5 loads in one box, and the washing soda to make about 5 also so the total cost is:
Borax: $.50
Washing Soda $.60
Fels Naptha $1.00
for a total of $2.10 for a load which makes enough for about 180 loads so about $.01 per load.
